I have been making pandora bracelets and absolutely love it. However, I won't be giving up my sewing and crocheting, quilting and embroidery. I am retired but still the days aren't long enough, life is good.

Main Bathroom

I wanted the bathroom to have a masculine touch so made a new shower curtain and a panel for the window. The fabric is black and grey plaid and I have a medicine cabinet to paint but can't decide to go with black, grey or white.

Sewing

I have caught up on some projects I wanted to make for our home. A new coverlet for our bed in a taupe and covered some cushions in suede taupe. My husband says it's boring but I like the restful colours.

Using red wool with a subtle sparkle, I made a poncho for Sadie and discovered how red really suits her. For Samantha I chose a mottled denim blue out of 100% cotton yarn. I'm not the greatest knitter so I used the loom for these projects. I think I'd rather crochet, I can follow a pattern easier and correcting mistakes is easy.

I made these fabric and embroidered names for the grandchildren of a dear friend in Calgary. I love the children's names and doubt they would ever find pens or door signs etc. for their bedrooms.

I really love making postcards, whether artistic or not I am having fun. Tried appliique on one and think I will do more, it was Sadie's favourite. I prefer watercolours over oil paints but am still experimenting and hope to learn more. Does anyone know of some good books or magazines on this craft?

Sadie loves to teceive mail so I decided to make her some post cards. Once I started I can't seem to stop. I'm using card stock I found at Winners and use oil paint sticks, thread and glue glitter. The glitter stops any fraying of the muslin when I sew the edge. I really can't draw so I collect pictures I like from magazines and the internet. The first few are fancy dresses that I hope Sadie will like.

Scarves

This year I decided to make some scarves for my sisters, cousins and aunt. Although not the knitted kind, they are made from fabric. I'm not too sure if I'm happy with them but everyone seemed to like theirs. In the photo is a gold stripe fabric trimmed with gold sparklie ribbon and other gold ones were trimmed with gold fringe. I also made black stripe ones with a silver thread in the fabric and trimmed with black ribbon. There really are all kinds of fabrics that would make great scarves.

I'm back in the sewing mode and had lots of fun making a quilt for Sadie for Christmas. It's called the 'Paper Doll Quilt' showing several dolls that resemble the Campbell Soup Baby, clothes, hats, and of course shoes. I transfered a photo of Sadie to put in the centre and a photo of Milo in the corner. Sadie always includes Milo in her school drawings. She really seemed to like the quilt......I'm so glad.

New Baby

We have a new grandson born on June 21/09 at 8 pounds 4 oz. A little boy born to Samantha & Jay on their anniversay and a little brother for Sadie. He is called Milo and I'm sure there will be some photos posted a little later. Mommy and baby are doing fine and we are all very happy.

The Wee Hours

It's 5:a.m. and I can't sleep, so what do you do??? Turn on the computer of course. I've posted a bunch of new photos to my facebook........big wow!! I don't go on facebook very often, don't quite get it, I suppose it's more for the younger folks.

Don't get all excited and expect great writing here, just because SAMANTHA LAMB is my wonderful talented daughter does not mean her creativity came from her mom.......I wish! I can take some credit for Sadie.....genetic wise that is but she really does look like me.......and smart, I could tell stories........Maybe another time, you might never come back to see my post.

We are excitedly awaiting our new grandchild, what a wonderful time for everyone. For Samantha, Jay & Sadie a new life of wonderment, love beyond anything and for Sadie, a sister or brother. We're not too sure yet if it makes much difference to her, it's just a baby in mommy's tummy and perhaps she might be thinking that's where it should stay!

As for us grandparents.........it's the fountain of youth and we can't wait.

New Year

I can't belive it's the year 2008, time is going by way too fast. Christmas was fun, especially having Sadie, Samantha & Jay staying over on Christmas Eve and watching Sadie open gifts and playing with 'Santa toys'. It was a little sad though, our first holiday without my mom and Jay's beloved mom, Margie.

My mom taught me a lot of things but my daughter Samantha, continues to inspire me. She has me hooked on knitting and also reading again. For a while I lost my concentration while trying to stay with a book but realized the books I picked up were all the same.....murder mysteries. Not that some of them weren't worth reading but I usually gave up. One of the best books I've read in a long time was called 'The Birthing Room', an excellent read. For Christmas I received 2 books from Samantha 'Brother & Sister' by Joanna Trollope and 'Plain Truth' by Jodi Picoult, this one I am half way through and am enjoying every page. What can possibly be better, the love and closeness of family, being creative and able to enjoy a good book.

Our little pirate Sadie......

It's been quite a while since I have posted anything and don't have much to show. I have made something for Samantha, although it's for Christmas so no photos until after.

We have not had a very good year. Jay's mom & Samantha's beloved mother-in-law passed away in the spring and I lost my mom in August. I think we are still trying to come to terms with it all, sometimes it's a very hard struggle. My joy is with my family and life continues on. We see Margie's gentle soul in Sadie and I hope Jay's family can get some solace from that. It's amazing to me that Sadie still has a 'great' gramma and a 'great great' gramma.

I must get back to the 'Bloggers' and see what everyone has been doing.

Finally finished a project........

I finally finished this shawl after ripping it out a few times........and.... it was supposed to be all pink. My own fault, I waited too long to get another so had to subsitute the heather colour. I found the wool in a lovely shop in Bowmanville that not only sells an amazing variety of wool but also sells doll houses and miniatures, another passion of mine. Samantha and I plan on going to Rickaby's when she can manage a Saturday, plus visit all the other great shops.

The shawl was a birthday gift for Samantha, how nervy is that? She creates beautiful knitted garments in record time while leading a very busy life. I, on the other hand am retired and have all the time in the world and don't seem to accomplish near as much nor do I have her talent for knitting. I can't complain though, I love being home full time, enjoy my family and get together once a week with my sisters for creating, and trying new desserts..

Packing Up Christmas

Here we are again, Christmas and New Year's over for another year. I always enjoy putting the decorations away and getting back to normal. Now back to knitting, some quilting and other fun things. I'm so jealous of Samantha and Elizaboothy.........they can knit socks......... I am also going to try crewel again, I found a wonderful book that updates this craft. Trouble is, I can't find anyone that sells crewel wool..

My Corner

I now have a favourite corner to knit, catch up on my magazines......embroider, all the many things I enjoy. We recently bought a new wing back chair and ottoman...the ultimate in comfort......of course there's usually a cat curled up on it. I also found a "Laura Ashley" teacup and saucer to make tea a special pleasure. What can get better than that....I know, having Sadie on my lap and reading her a story.

Birthday Gift

I have just completed a table runner for my sister-in-law's birthday. She loved it but I'm afraid it may have caused a lot of re-arranging and decorating ideas in her home. (Look out Bill)! I really enjoy the applique and choosing just the right fabrics and now, back to my knitting. We get together every Wednesday to knit (or bitch) or whatever project we might be working on and have a blast. Most important though, is the anticipation of what dessert we will be served.....

100 Years

Last Thursday, August 3, our Grandmother turned 100 years old. The nursing home held a party for her with family and residents together and she received several framed documents from government officials. We now have 5 generations in our family and possibly six.

90th. Birthday

I'm finally back to some sewing and embroidery. Our son-in-law's grandmother celebrated her 90th. birthday yesterday and it was a great party in beautiful surroundings. My daughter suggested a small apron for her, which I made and realized again how much I love needlework.

Happy Mothers Day

This Sunday is Mother's Day, a time I'm sure we will all think of our moms and reflect on the past. I think it's the most wonderful job in the world and the most rewarding. My mom is still with us and for that I am very thankful, she had a stroke in 2001 and through sheer determination is walking with the aid of a walker and doing quite well. My maternal grandmother is also still with us, and will be celebrating her 100th. birthday this August. Last year in May we lost my husband's mother at the age of '90', although a good age, we miss her. My daughter has a wonderful mother-in-law and our thoughts will especially be with her this Mother's Day and to Margie & Esther, Happy Mother's Day.

I would have to say......the best mom I know is Samantha. She & Sadie are already best friends. Samantha is back to work full time, and still manages to create, cook, read, knit.....the list goes on but first and foremost she's a great mom.

Family Project

As usual, I'm working on several projects and have finished none........so I thought I'd post a quilt that I finished a few years ago. It's called 'Blocks of Love" and was made for our mom's birthday. It's a family quilt and each member made their own block, even the younger members. Three were especially beautiful paintings, a Christmas one done by my sister Wanda, a farm house by my sister Tracey, and a river painted by Carl. Some traced their hands, a brother-in-law put an actual tire tread from a motorcyle, another brother-in-law who works for hydro, spray painted his block 'black' as you can see, and I broke 3 needles trying to sew around it........AND.... another brother-in-law traced his foot......comedians in every family eh? There were poems and flowers, an appliqued fire engine for a special nephew, a see-through photo from Samantha surrounded by french knots, intertwined hands from sister-in-law Cathy, hearts and musical bands, a lily painted over the number '72' painted by my husband in honour of mom's 72nd. birthday. I embroidered a teapot on my square but I think the best block of all was done by our gramma, she crocheted 3 red roses and I attached them to her block.......at the time she was 92 and she's still with us looking forward to her 100th birthday in August. To fill in the left-over blocks I appliqued some hearts in each corner, added photos of mom & dad, and made a felt cat in a block for their cat Holly. It was a wonderful project, anticipating all the different blocks I would receive.

The quilt really was made with love and I enjoyed every minute of piecing it to gether. I sashed the blocks with a red-dotted fabric and used the same for the border, it was the finishing touch.

Glitter & Sparkle & Everything Red

I finally finished the wall-hanging for my mom and besides the glitter, her favourite colour is red. I did the flower pot with a black sparkle which seemed to calm the piece down a bit. It's not really my thing but mom loves it and can't wait for it to be hung in her room. It should be interesting to hear any comments she receives, and I really did enjoy working on it, applique is one of my favourite things to do.

Glitter

Is it possible to have too much glitter? I think so and with that in mind here is my collection of glitter fabrics. I'm not really sure why I buy them......just to add to my stash I guess. However, I have used them for Christmas, puddling them around the tree or on tables with Christmas decorations and have made a few decorations out of them. Now, I have a very special use for them. My mom loves these fabrics (and all things that sparkle and glitter) and wants me to make a wallhanging for her. She is in a nursing home and wants some colour over her bed, right now it's just a pale, cold shade of light green. Well, I'm about to change all that and jazz it up somewhat. My sister Tracey thought of the idea and I am in the process of putting it together. Mom has a red satin quilted bed-spread, red drapes and a huge chandelier lamp, think maybe the sparklie wallhanging is way over the top? Well, we know mom won't think so. It will be on my blog as soon as it's completed.

Incidently, my mum.........and my gramma are in the same nursing home.........mom will be 80 years old in April and Gramma will be 100 years old in August. I'm not giving my age, so with our 3 Lambs, myself, Samantha and Sadie we are 5 generations.

I made this quilt for our family room, the solid pink/taupe squares are the same shade as the walls. The print is very whimsical and had all the colours in it that I wanted. Now, back to some knitting and embroidery. I am also inspired by the bloggers to make a bag and have some wonderful fabrics in mind.

These treasures were made by my daughter Samantha, when she was still in high school. First is 'Santa', his beautiful clothes are velvet and he is very special to me. Samantha's attention to detail is amazing and he is certainly 'one of a kind'.

Next, is a white velour cat.....he's wonderful with his long legs, fat belly and distinctive personality. One day I heard this loud thumping, our 'real' cat Ollie, was dragging velour cat down the basement stairs ....thump...thump....thump.......I can only guess that Ollie wasn't too impressed with 'velour cat'.

Last, but not least is "Rag Doll", with her striped legs, amazing face and wonderfull hair. I cannot think of anything better than having a special soft doll made just for you. I'm so lucky, these three treasures will remain very dear to me and one day they will belong to Sadie. Thankyou, Samantha.........your talent and creativity never ceases to amaze me.
